I’d lived in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan from 1975 until late 1999. During that time, I’d always wanted to hike Hogsback Mountain, located on County Road 550 when heading north to Big Bay, but I’d never gotten around to it. Well, finally, in September of 2011 the weather was perfect while I was visiting family (cool in the mornings), so I finally did it. This is where I met Louie, the awesome dog in one of the photos, who enjoyed being my temporary canine companion. The view was spectacular from the summit, and I’m looking forward to hiking there again sometime.

lovely photos!! I’m glad you got to hike it! I’ve always wanted to…
It was awesome! I certainly wouldn’t recommend doing it in the middle of summer (with the humidity and all), but hiking up there in early September, in the morning, when the temps were in the 50′s was pretty awesome. =) I could probably handle it in the middle of summer as well, if I became re-acclimated to that lovely humidity…although I’d *love* to do the hike in late fall, with all the colors.
